East Indian people is a demonym that may refer to the following related groups: * people from South Asia, South Asian ethnic groups, or * people from India, Indian people This usage is particularly popular in countries in the western hemisphere to differentiate people of Indian origin from Native Americans (also referred to as Indians) or people from the Caribbean (known as West Indians). ;Older uses * also sometimes extended to include people from the Maritime Southeast Asia, which was also referred to as the Malay Archipelago and as the East Indies, sometimes by itself and sometimes in combination with South Asia during the colonial era. This usage is not popular now. * people of mixed European and Asian(esp. Indian) parentage. This usage is specific to the Anglo-Indian community. ;Other uses: * people from Eastern parts of India * East Indian Catholics, a small Marathi–Konkani speaking, Roman Catholic ethnic group, based in and around the city of Bombay now Mumbai. ==See also==
